Leveling a twink to lvl 80 is a boring task. Well, the 3.3 patch made it a bit easier, but you still waste a lot of time.

World of Warcraft offers dozens of ways to level your character: Visiting instances, doing quests on your own or with friends and last but not least: grinding. But which is the best way to level up?
Instances, Maybe?
It’s fun to visit instances. With the dungeon finder it’s in fact easy to find a group and visit every instance in the game. Or you just invite your guild mates to accompany you.
Although you’ll have a great time, you won’t get much xp/hour! We all know that dungeon quests and mobs give more xp that normal mobs and quests. But you are also going to spend a LOT more time on completing/killing them. If you want to visit instances to level up, you are going to waste hours of your time.
What About Leveling In A Party?
I enjoy leveling with my friends and it’s lots of fun. But unfortunately right now groups are unnecessary to solve the most quests so you will just get less xp. Before the Cataclysm hits, leveling in a party is not an option to get the max xp/hour.
Leveling on your own?
If you want to get the max xp/hour and level 1-80 really fast, doing quests on your own is the way to go! Still, many inexperienced players mess it up and waste days of their time on leveling. What’s the reason for this? They know where to find the quest mobs and NPCs since 3.3, right?
But they completely ignore the most important thing: The right questing path.
Without an in-game mage leveling guide almost every player will mess up the questing path. They’ll stumble back and forth and complete quests in a very, very inefficient way. And they’ll waste time on junk quests that hardly give any xp.

First of all, I want to talk about grinding. Grinding for XP is just a waste of time. “But many players are grinding. They say that’s the quickest way to level!” you hear people saying? Well that’s outright wrong.
In the past, grinding was a viable way to level your character, but those days are gone. And you should feel thankful for this. Killing the same mob a hundred times over? Without me! Nowadays, there are more efficient ways to get to 80.
Which leads me to “playing in a party and visiting instances”. If you have friends you want to level with and you have fun playing with them, that’s great! But counting the numbers it’s not nearly as efficient as questing solo.
You can visit instances to loot the items and equip your mage, but while you’re in an instance you will complete relatively few quests and quests are the things that give you the most exp.
Don’t get me wrong – playing with friends and mates is great! Just don’t force yourself to find a group because you think it would save you time.
The third – and more effective – way is questing on your own without a mage leveling addon. Why do I emphasize “without an addon”? This is very important when it comes to leveling speed.
Questing, by far, is the most effective way to level 1 to 80, but with all the areas and quests, players get confused. In the end they waste hours of their time stumbling through the world. It can be frustrating to invest your time and effort into completing a quest just to find out that it’s a junk-quest that hardly gives you any gold or experience.
The forth and – in my opinion – most efficient way to ding 80 is questing with an in-game mage leveling addon.
In case you haven’t heard about in-game guides: They are addons that tell you where to go next and which quest to complete. It’s like having a blueprint that guides you through the levels in the fastest possible way and makes mage leveling easy and fun.

Fortunately there’s a fool-proof way to avoid doing junk quests. Once you get that dialed, questing becomes very easy and fast. Well, as fast as leveling can get, anyway.

But before I start: Did you notice how I didn’t say that grinding is good for farming xp? That’s because in my opinion grinding is not the fastest way to level your mage. Questing is the way to go in that aspect of the game.

Mage Grinding Talent Build: The Frost Spec
There are two ways to grind – one way is killing one mob after another. And there’s a better way: Slay a dozen mobs at once!
Sounds interesting? Then I recommend you to get yourself a frost talent build ASAP. It’s the one and only mage build to take on hordes of mobs simultaneous.
Frost specs focus entirely on freezing mobs, AoE spells and survivability. I recommend you to aim for a pure frost build (0/0/71) to get the most out of it.
And then you will want to enhance your skills with the matching Glyphs!
The next step is to look at the grinding strategy itself: Grinding with the frost build is all about using AoE spells like Frost Nova, Blizzard and Cone of Cold to kill as many mobs simultaneous as possible.
You have to pull them and gather them close to each other – then hit them all at once using your AoE spells.
This way you can definitely farm items, gold and reputation much faster than before. Again, if you want to level 1-80 as fast as you can, questing is much faster than grinding.

These special “consumables” a Mage can make will restore one’s hp and mana and are always a need. When it comes to the Crowd Control, Mages can Polymorph any Beast or Humanoid creature. Nowadays there is a lot of tank and spank fights which are fairly easy but nevertheless, crowd control Mages possess, is always welcome.
These spells that buff, create and transform are nice but you will probably understand that a Mage has a wide variety of damaging attacks which make him one of the best damage dealing classes in the game. His spells deal Arcane, Frost and Fire types of damage. The Arcane talent tree is very interesting because it has become a better talent tree through time. Where previously Arcane was hardly used and if it was used it was usually in combination with the Frost or Fire talent tree, the Arcane talent build is now very nice for both PvE and PvP. Great thing about Arcane is that the tree provides the Mage with quite a bit of mana efficient talents, several devastating spells and more. The Fire talent tree has always been seen as the talent tree which should be followed by Mages that look purely at the damage output. A really good point of Arcane talent tree is that it will provide Mages with nice mana-efficient talents, nice damage dealing abilities and even more. If you want the pure damage then the Fire talent tree is perfect for you. The Fire build gives Mages a few very strong damaging spells and a critical strike rating increase, so if you are looking for pure, mostly single target damage, Fire is definitely the perfect choice for your Mage.
Since you can also stun players and summon a Water Elemental to fight at your side, the Frost tree is great in PvP and also a fun choice for PvE. The Mage’s talent trees are fun to play with because you can also combine different talents from different talent trees . By using Frost spells you would also be able to summon a special kind of companion – the Water Elemental that will help you in any fight, either PvP or PvE. All three talent builds could be interesting and fun and what’s more important, you can combine them all as you like or play them separately!.
