There are three gatherer profession in WoW: Herbalism, Skinning, and Mining; if you choose Mining, you’ll do it it in many resources nodes that can be found throughout the world. As a miner, you’ll get ores, minerals, and stones; players who take Blacksmithing, Engineering, or Jewelcrafting as their profession can use it as ingredients to produce something else.

The market always hungry for raw materials to fulfill their recipes requirements, thus make Mining a great gold making profession; in this case, a miner who utilize the right World of Warcraft Mining Guide will earn a lot more than the one who just mine anything in his sight.

Mining locations are the most important part, but there are few things you should do before you start mining:

First, find a trainer and get trained in mining. There are different trainers for Alliance, Horde, and Neutral. These trainers are divided in three levels:

  1. Regular Mining Trainers; he will teach you from Apprentice to Artisan level (level 300). If you are in Alliance side, Geofram Bouldertoe in The Great Forge is one of the options. For Horde, meet Brek Stonehoof in Lower Rise, Thunder Bluff.
  2. Master; he will teach you the Master Levels (up to level 375). The one for the Alliance section is Fono at Aldor Rise, Shattrath. As for the Horde, it will be Krugosh at Thrallmar, Hellfire Peninsula.
  3. Grand Master; he will be your trainer for Grand Master Levels (up to 450). Look for Grumbol Stoutpick at Valgarde, Howling Fjord for Alliance faction and Brunna Ironaxe at Warsong Hold, Borean Tundra for Horde faction.

Second, look for a blacksmith supplier, engineering supplier, or mining supplier and buy a mining pick. Always put it in your inventory before you go to mine something.

Third, if you have extra gold, use it to fund enchanted gear that increase your mining skill. A few tools to consider: Enchanted gloves with +5 to mining skills, enchanted gloves with +5 to all gathering skills, a goblin mining helmet with +5 to mining skills.

Fourth, check your minimap with “find minerals” enable. It will show you various nodes where you can mine raw materials and display color code to show the mining level needed. Forget the red colored ones; that means your mining skill is not sufficient for those nodes.

The next is the important part of this World of Warcraft mining guide: Mining Locations

  1. Copper: Azuremyst Isle, Darkshore, Dun Morogh, Durotar, Elwynn Forest, Eversong Woods, Mulgore, Tirisfal Glades.
  2. Tin Ore: Hillsbrad Foothills, Redridge Mountains, The Barrens, Thousand Needles.
  3. Iron Ore, Gold Ore, and Mithil Ore: Arathi Highlands, Stranglethorn Vale, Badlands, Desolace, Stranglethorn Vale, Tanaris, The Hinterlands.

Mining is the most popular profession in World of Warcraft. Not only is it extremely useful for any metal-worker, but you can also rely on Mining to make you a good income throughout the game.

Not only do you dig up the raw ores with Mining, you can also smelt them into metal bars for Blacksmiths, Jewelcrafters and Engineers to use. It’s a great idea to combine Mining with one of these other professions.

It takes a good amount of time to reach the highest Mining level – 450 – but it is well worth the trip because you can dig up such valuable metals when you reach that level. Here is the very fastest route to level 450 in Mining:

Although each different starts the game in different areas, here is the intro guide for Dwarves and Gnomes. To read for each race, go here: World of Warcraft Mining Guide. Step one: get trained to Apprentise Mining in town, then reach level 30 by digging for copper ore in Dun Morogh and Durotar. Turn the copper into bars using your smelting ability and save them.

You can train as a Journeyman Miner at level 65. Mine around the Thousand Needles and the Redridge Mountains, looking for tin – usually mixd in with copper and iron. Turn the tin in to bars by smelting, then combine the tin and copper bars to make Bronze bars. Continue until you hit level 95.

Now dig up and turn Silver Ore into bars, which’ll bring you to level 125. Do this around the Arathi Highland and the Thousand Needles. At level 125 you can become Expert Mining. When you reach level 155 and can smelt gold bars, the quickest thign to do now is to just buy gold ore and turn it into bars to get to level 175. You can always sell these bars to afford the ore.

Become expert in Mining at level 225. And move to the Hinterlands and Tanaris area to continue Mining. When you arrive at level 230, get the Truesilver Ore Smelting ability and smelt Truesilver Ore until you reach level 245.

We are now moving into the high levels of mining and you want to get over to Winterspring. Focus on mining and smelting thorium bars (you’ll need to train the skill first). You can find the most Torium around the Eastern Plaguelands. And next, focus on mining Fel Ore near the Hellfire Peninsula – this will get you up to level 325. When you are there mining for Adamandite Ore in Nagrand will bring you up to 350.
