World of Warcraft Warlock Guide – Necromantic Fun
My WoW warlock guide attempts to point you down the correct path when starting out as a warlock. Warlocks are masters of the dark arts with the ability to control demons, fire, and shadows. The spells commanded by the warlock class are primarily focused on causing agonizing pain and suffering. They’re able to hurl powerful spells from a distance, but they are not good at fighting up close since they don’t have any real physical defense. Unique to warlocks are soul shards, which are used in various spells and must be acquired from defeated mobs. The warlock is easily one of the fastest leveling classes and truly shines when playing solo. When raiding, warlocks often do huge quantities of damage and should take care not to draw aggro from the tanks.
Allowable races for warlocks are restricted to Undead, Orcs, Humans, Gnomes, and Blood Elves. The single armor type a warlock can equip is cloth. As far as weapons go, they are limited to using only staves, daggers, wands, and some swords.
Warlocks are best known for their ability to summon and control a variety of demonic minions including Voidwalkers, Succubi, Infernals, Imps, Felhunters, Felguards, and Doomguards. Each minion has it’s place with different advantages and disadvantages. Whether it’s damage over time (DoT), DD (direct damage), or summoning, a warlock can cast a full range of spells. They are able to use soul shards to conjure several useful items and also to resurrect other players. They also possess some limited self healing power via drain life, and good crowd control abilities as well. One of the overlooked benefits that warlocks have is that they do not need to pay nearly as much gold as other classes do to acquire mounts (Dreadsteed and Felsteed).
Affliction talents are used for bolstering DoT’s, drains, and curses. This spec is good for farming, boss killing, and raiding. This is generally acknowledged as being the optimum leveling spec for the warlock class.
The Demonology talent tree specialization concentrates primarily on summoning spells and bonuses for your demonic minions that make them robust and more lethal. For player versus player, this is a really good spec. For leveling up, it is just a notch below Affliction. If you want to build the most powerful demons, this is the spec you want.
Destruction uses talents that amplify the power of a warlock’s fire and shadow spells, which are primarily direct damage (DD) spells used to quickly kill one enemy. This spec is not as effective as the others at lower levels. It requires lots of soul shards, isn’t mana efficient, and is difficult to use for people who wish to play by themselves.
