Priest – Shadow and Holy Powers
Some people that play World of Warcraft consider priests as the best healing class. It must be said however, that priests can also dish out a lot of damage. If you choose to play this class you will have a choice between different races. The Horde faction has Blood Elf, Undead and Troll priests in it’s ranks. If you want to make a Priest and be part of the Alliance you can choose between a Draenei, Dwarf, Humand and Night Elf priest. Depending on the race you choose you will have different passive abilities but the choice will surely depend on you and your game play.
Priests use mana to cast both their offensive and healing spells and in order to be efficient at what they do they need to generate mana so a lot of spirit is needed, intellect is needed to give them a mana pool and spell power is needed to make their spells more powerful. As each other class the priest has three talent trees available to him and these are Discipline, Holy and Shadow. Click here to watch the video: WoW Priest Leveling Guide
The Holy tree is perfect for a typical healer. Spells like Guardian Spirit and Circle of Healing will become available to the priest through this talent tree and together with the spells every priest has and the other great talents that can be found in this talent tree, a Holy priest is one of the better healers in the game. The Shadow talent tree gives the priests the ability to do a lot of damage.
As a Shadow Priest you will have a few dot spells which deal a nice amount of damage over time. They are also greatly valued in raids and groups not only because they can be good damage dealers but also because of their ability to heal and give mana back to the party members. If you plan to play a lot of PvP with your priest you should definitely consider the Discipline talent tree. Because the discipline tree makes the priest a tough cookie with damage absorbing talents and nice new spells, it’s a nice choice.
Besides a nice amount of healing and damaging spells the priests also have some great buffs like Spirit buff, Stamina buff and Shadow Protection buffs. They can also resurrect, dispel magic and disease, mass dispel, shackle undead, fear targets, mana burn etc. Threat plays an important role in WoW and luckily the Priests can fade when they get a bit too much agro to reduce their threat. Priests can only wear cloth armor. Priests have a lot of mana and do not have a lot of hitpoints because they are not meant to take a lot of hits. If a Priest chooses to become Shadow, he will need to have a certain stats on his gear. You should aim for a lot of spirit, intellect, spell power, and hit and crit rating.
For holy priests it is similar but they for them haste rating is much more important than the hit or crit rating. Leveling a priest could go a bit slower in the beginning and it is advisable to level a priest as a Shadow. As you hit level 40 and get Shadow Form it will be a lot easier though and once you hit the level cap you can count on many dungeon and raid spots as either a healer or damage dealer.

World of Warcraft Priest Guide
The Priest, one of the main classes in Warcraft, has some great abilities that not only make them fun to play but also great allies to have in groups and raid. In the WoW Priest guide we’ll take a look at some of their main strengths, weaknesses, and talents.
Their main strength lies in their talent at protecting themselves and friends with healing spells. In addition they can both resurrect their fallen allies and destroy their enemies.
Let’s begin the WoW Priest guide by looking at some of their abilities.
- Healing Abilities: Their healing powers and talents are great for both single and multiple targets.
- Resurrection: As mentioned above, they can heal fallen friends.
- Holy Magic: This provides Buffs, can Dispel and Cure, and inflict Damage
- Shadow Magic: This can cause various Damage including, direct, and over time, mana drains, aggro control, and Mind Control
- Crowd Control: They have some crowd control ability although it’s pretty limited.
Now we’ll look at some of thier weaknesses.
- Armor: Priests are restricted to wearing cloth armor.
- Weapons: They generally are limited to single handed maces and wands but can learn to use daggers and staves.
- Not good for Melee: The 2 weaknesses I just mentioned combine to make the Priest pretty lousy at Melee and they have low hit points.
As I mentioned the Priests main talent lies in their ability to heal, but mastering healing can be challenging especially in groups. That’s because it requires plenty of concentration and some good reflexes. Learn more about the Priest in the WoW Priest Guide
Now we’ll finish up the WoW Priest Guide with a look at their 3 main talent trees, which are Discipline, Holy and Shadow.
- Discipline: This particular talent tree will make you well equipped to keep group members and yourself alive in raids and PvP. The main thing in this talent build is damage control as well as healing and protection. Keeping the tank alive is actually the main goal in group play. To do this Priest’s use a spell called “Penance” which happens to be one of the best healing spells in all of WoW.
- Holy: If you enjoy healing more than anything else then this is probably a good talent build for you. They’re extremely versatile at healing and fantastic for groups. Spiritual guidance, Circle of Healing, and Guardian Spirit are some of their special talent here.
- Shadow: This is the talent build of choice for those players who prefer more combat. Mind Flay is one of the spells you’ll use in combat. It not only inflicts damage but slows your enemies down by 50%. Two spells you’ll need for PvP are called “Silence” and “Psychic Scream”.
In order to level the Priest class you need to select the right gear and talent build. But the most important thing is to have fun so pick a talent build that fits your particular playing style.
