Shamans – The Spiritcallers

Shamans are one of the hybrid classes in the World of Warcraft. For a long time this amazing class was attached to the Horde side while the Paladin class was specific for the Alliance side. With the Burning Crusade this fact has changed and with the new introduced race – the Draenei, Shamans became very popular with the Alliance players.

Shamans resemble Druids in few things such as in their ability to change spec from healing to dps caster and to melee dps as well. Their talent tree has tree branches a player can choose from – Elemental, Enhancement and Restoration. When one chooses Elemental branch of the talent tree he is definitely into playing his Shaman as a dps caaster. However, to achieve the best damage output you should equip gear that is rich in sp (spell power), hit rating, crit rating as well as with haste rating. If your choice falls on a melee dps, than the right talent tree for you would definitely be the Enhancement tree. The Enhancement build will also require you to have adequate gear that has a lot of Agility, hit, crit and haste. An Enhancement Shaman will possess the ability to call upon two allies – the ghost wolves to fight by his side. These wolves come in handy especially while playing PvP.

The Restoration talent build belongs to the healers. He has single target heals and also his chain heal is a very useful spell since it will heal a few targets with the lowest hp. Earth shield is another very useful spell a Shaman can put on himself, a party member or a tank who is receiving damage. Resto Shamans need a lot of spell power and mp5 (Mana per 5 Seconds) on their gear.

Shamans are able to wear cloth armor, leather armor and mail armor. While leveling up to some point they will have to wear leather since the ability to wear mail will not be available to them. At the higher levels it is strongly suggested to wear mail since this kind of armor is a lot stronger then leather or cloth. Similar to Hunter’s armor sets, mail armor sets made for Shamans have a lot of useful stats like intellect, which is important for a Shaman since he is a mana user. For easy leveling a Shaman it is suggested to put your talents in the Enhancement branch. An Enhancement Shaman doesn’t need as much mana as an Elemental Shaman and therefore he will drink a lot less which of course, will speed up your leveling. Do not forget to put some points in a special ability – the ghost wolf form since it will enable you to turn into your ghost wolf instantly!.

The popularity of Shamans among other classes comes from their skills and ability of summoning different kinds of useful totems. Shamans’ totems are divided into four groups – Fire, Air, Water and Earth totems. Depending on the build a Shaman chooses their totems will give more benefit to the party members. Since there are four groups of elements, a Shaman can use one totem from each group so in total he can cast 4 different totems.

Overall the Shaman class is a great versatile class to play because you can easily switch between healing and damage dealing. Be assured that you won’t get bored while playing this class since there are so many options to choose from.
