WoW Skinning Guide
Skinning, as you can imagine, allows you to skin the hides of beasts you’ve killed and use them in Leatherworking and even in Blacksmithing, Engineering, and Tailoring. In the following WoW Skinning guide you’ll get a good intro into skinning as your primary profession.
Skinning is a fantastic gathering profession which allows you not only to skin what you’ve killed but also what’s been left behind by others. You can find skinning trainers by looking for leatherworkers since they usually are in the same area. Ask a guard for directions to the trainer if you can’t find one. You’ll need a skinning knife, which can be bought from a professions merchant. Read more about skinning in the WoW Skinning Leveling Guide
WoW Skinning Guide: List of skinning ranks and their associated skill levels.
- Apprentice: Levels 1-75
- Journeyman: Levels 50-150
- Expert: Levels 125-225
- Artisan: Levels 200-300
- Master: Levels 300-375
Some secondary professions are better than others when it comes to Skinning. For example, Skinning can be really good with mining or herbalism just because of the profit potential of having two gathering professions. The most obvious and probably best profession to go along with skinning is Leatherworking. On the other hand some professions, Alchemy for instance, won’t add anything valuble when combined with skinning.
Not all beasts you kill can be skinned. To find out if something can be skinned just hover over the corpse. If it’s something that can be skinned just remember that first you’ll need to loot it completely. To be polite it’s best to wait for a player to walk away from something they’ve killed before you skin it.
Hovering over a corpse to see if it can be skinned will reveal a color code, if you can skin it. The various colors will let you know if you can skin it and whether it will help your current skill level if you do. Here’s a list of the colors and what they mean.
- Red: You can’t skin it at your level.
- Orange: This means it’ll be hard for you to skin, but if you manage to do it, it’ll probably increase your skill level.
- Yellow: These are moderately difficult to skin with a moderate chance of helping you level up your skill.
- Green: Easy to skin, but probably won’t help your skill level much.
- Gray: These are easy to skin but won’t help you level up skinning at all.
